החגים בפתח, ואיתם השאלה הנצחית: איזו מתנה נביא הפעם? כבר ניסינו את הסטנדרטיים: פרחים, יין וכלי הגשה מהממים, אבל מה השנה? שוב קערה? ואולי פריט אמנותי מעשה יד?
כדי לעזור לכם להתמודד עם הסוגייה הנצחית הזו, אני גאה להציג בפניכם את האמנית והמעצבת המוכשרת ריה אריקה מיריאן, המתגוררת ויוצרת בארץ, אחרי שנים ארוכות ברחבי העולם.

והפעם, לאור בקשות מיוחדות, הפוסט מפורסם בעברית ובאנגלית.

ש: הגעת לעיצוב מתוך עולם האמנות.
ת: כולנו אמנים יוצרים בדרך זו או אחרת. כולם יוצרים חומר או רעיון חדש בכל יום. חלק מהחומרים ברורים ומוגדרים יותר, כמו יצירת אמנות, בזמן שאחרים הופכים להבעות של אמנות בחיי היום יום. אמנות היא חיים והם יצירה, כך שכל דבר בחיים הוא יצירת אמנות, רק שהורגלנו להתייחס ל"אמנות" רק אל מול תמונה תלויה על קיר, לדוגמה. אבל האמנות נמצאת בכל מקום, אם אתה רק בוחר לראות אותה.

אני יוצרת מוצרים כתכשיטים ושאלים סרוגים, אך גם מעצבת בגדים בכמויות קטנות. מלבד אלו, אני גם עובדת כארטדיירקטורית, אחרי שלמדתי את זה באוניברסיטת בניו יורק במשך 7 שנים. העבודה שלי סובבת סביב עיצוב אתרים ועיצוב גרפי עבור פרטיים, או בשיתוף פעולה עם משרדי פרסום.

ש: איך זה בא לידי ביטוי בעבודות שלך ובתהליך העבודה שלך?

ש: מה מייחד את המוצרים האלו ממוצרים אחרים הקיימים בשוק?
ת: המוצרים שלי יחודיים, כי אפשר לענוד אותם בדרכים שונות. הם שבטיים למראה, ומושפעים מהטיולים שלי וההתנסויות שלי. בשאלים הסרוגים יש המון פרטים קטנים, המשולבים במגוון חומרים מרגש, צמר וחוטים. הם עשויים עבודת יד, ויכול לקחת עד 4-5 ימים כדי להשלים כל פריט. הן יצירות אמנות על הכתפיים שלך. הם חמים, קלים, נוחים ושופעים, ואפשר ללבוש אותם כל השנה, ביום ובלילה.
הבגדים שאני מייצרת מושפעים מטקסטורה וצבע, בשילובים שלא היית מצפה להם, אבל איכשהו הכל מתחבר יחד בסופו של דבר, כמו ציור יפהפה על בד.

ש: ספרי מעט על תהליך העבודה.
ת: בד"כ אני מעצבת את מה שאני אוהבת ללבוש. זה חלק מהתהליך, וזה תמיד עובד כי זה מגיע ממקום טהור, מהלב. חוץ העבודות שאני עושה כמעצבת גרפית, כל מה שאני מייצרת נוצר קודם כל עבורי, כך שהתהליך כולו מאוד מפתיע, ופעמים רבות התוצאה הסופית מפתיעה אותי.

ש: את עובדת כרגע על מוצר חדש?
ת: כן. אני עובדת על קולקציה לסתיו ולחורף. ופעם נוספת, אני מתאהבת בכל מוצר כשאני מסיימת אותו. לפעמים, קשה לי להיפרד מהמוצרים.

ש: איזה מוצר את אוהבת במיוחד?
ת: זה היה מסע עבורי. בד"כ, קשה לאמן להרפות מהעבודות בגלל הקשר המהודק שנוצר בינו לבין העבודה. עד כה, אני יוצרת מהלב, מתחברת לכל עבודה באופן טוטאלי, ואז מרפה. זה תהליך, אבל בסופו, אני שמחה לראות את העיצובים שלי על אחרים.

The holidays are almost here, + with them comes the eternal question: what will we bring this time? We already brought the regular stuff, as flowers, wine, and a beautiful designed bowl, but what will it be this year? Another bowl? Or maybe an artistic hand-made object?
To help you solve this serius problem, I'm proud to present you a very talented artist and desighner named Raia Erica Myrian, who lives and creates in Israel, after long years around the world.

Q: You got to the world of design from the art world.
A: We are all artists and creators in one way or another. Creating material and immaterial objects everyday, some are obvious as works of art while others become an expression of art in everyday life. Art is Life is Creation, so everything in life is a work of art, we are just conditioned to see “Art” as a picture hanging on a wall for instance, but art is found everywhere if you choose to see it.

Q: Do you describe yourself as an artist or a designer?
A: My work is so vast and varied that sometimes I channel work as an artist and others as a designer depending on the intention of the work, my role is fluid.
I create accessories such as jewelry and hand knitted shawls, but also design clothing in small quantites.
Besides this, I am an Art Director having studied in University in New York for 7 years. My work revolves around designing websites and various graphic work for individuals, or in collaboration with advertising agencies.

Q: How does it come to fruition in the process of your work?
A: My work is inspired by my own experiences or needs. I create for myself what I cannot find in the market and this eventually leads to having orders and creating for sale. Today, the whole world is at the tip of your fingers. In more ways than ever before, we hold the strings to our destiny in our hands. You can sit at home and run an empire from your computer, and, or transform your house into a business and market your products without ever meeting another person or seeking personal help.

Q: How did you get to the area of creating accessories?
A: I was traveling in Brazil where they have beautiful precious and semi-precious stones. I bought a few for myself to make a necklace and fell in love with the work. Before long, I had a worker who was helping me produce my designs in an apartment in Rio De Janeiro.

Q: Tell me about the products you create.
A: I walk around in the stores and see designs that are uninspired, mass produced and very similar in style, a copy of each other. And usually after the first was or wear it is ready for the garbage or has taken on a strange shape. Nothing has a personality or heart. Its quite sad actually.
My work is unique, and each piece being one of a kind. If you choose to wear something of mine, it will become uniquely an expression of yourself. And it will last a lifetime.

Q: What designates your work from other products that are out in the market?
A: My jewelry is quite unique in the sense that it can be worn in a multiple of ways. They are a quite tribal in look and inspired by my travels and experiences.
My knitted shawls are beautifully detailed with exciting combinations or yarn and wool. They are completely handmade and can take up to 4-5 days to complete a single piece. They are a work of art on your shoulders. They are warm, light, comfortable and lush and can be worn all around the year day or night.
My clothes are inspired by texture and color and combinations that you would otherwise not expect, but it somehow all comes together in the end like a beautiful painting on a canvas.

Q: Can you talk a bit about the process of work?
A: I usually design what I like to wear, this is my process and it always works because it comes from a pure space, from the heart. Besides my graphic design work, everything is self taught, so the process is quite unexpected, many times surprising me with the outcome.

Q: Are you working on a special project these days?
A: Yes. Right now I am working on a fall and winter collection. I am again falling in love with each item as I finish it—its hard to let go of some of them Knitted shawls and accessories, as well as an occasional clothing item is coming together to be on the market soon.

Q: Which piece are you the most connected to?
A: This has been a journey for me. An artist usually has a hard time to let go of the work because the connection to each is so strong. So for now, I create from the heart, connect with each totally and then let go. Its quite a process, but in the end it puts a smile on my face to see my designs on others.

Q: How can people purchase your accessories?
A: My things can be purchased by visiting my studio in Beit Yehoshua. I also sell on various sites and social networks on the internet for outside of Israel. And of course I place photos of my designs on various social networks such as Facebook. If you are interested in my designs, I encourage a meeting and visit to my studio for a personal showing and a lovely superfood drink of my creation….but yet again this is another story left for another time.
